Rodwood, Frazsiers eye LIME mid-season final
Rodwood FC and Frazsiers Whip, joint leaders in the LIME/St Catherine Major League, need only to avoid defeat in today’s 11th round to assure themselves of a place in next Thursday’s mid-season final at Prison Oval.
Having earned a draw on the road, basement club Christian Pen will be demanding a rallying call from its supporters, as it pushes for a second win of the season when they host Spanish Town Police FC.
Portsmouth FC, another struggling club, did well in their last outing in sharing the points at home versus DB Basovak, but their road trips have only yielded a solitary point so far and will demand something special from them to take anything away at Dunbeholden.
Wanderers FC have been one of the better teams in the league, but they face a tricky assignment away to Tru Juice at By-Brook and victory could see them finishing in third at the end of this round.
All matches begin at 3:00 pm.
Rodwood lead the standings on the basis that they’ve scored more goals than Frazsiers, as both teams have an identical goal difference of plus-six.
However, Floyd Coke’s team travel to Homestead where they’ll face a Basovak team that’s two points adrift and must win to qualify for Thursday’s final.
The proposition isn’t farfetched, as Kevin Brown’s team’s only lost was against Frazsiers Whip. But it is their home form that’s been a major cause for concern with just two wins there.
Rodwood’s second-round defeat to Frazsiers Whip remains their only blemish on their profile in this competition and that level of consistency is likely to continue even after Wednesday’s semi-final exit against Portmore United in the parish KO.
And following Wednesday’s KO semi-final win which will see them defending their title in a fortnight, Frazsiers will be high on confidence when they hosts eighth-placed Black Lion FC.
Victory is expected from their adoring home fans, but coach Rayon Gordon will be warning his troops against getting complacent.
Black Lions have been inconsistent and manager Ian Henry will be demanding good result from this encounter which could be the catalyst for the remainder of the season.
