PROMINENT clergyman Rev Dr Wellesley A Blair yesterday warned the Portia Simpson Miller-led administration not to allow any foreign government or group to dictate the country’s policy decisions, regardless of the consequences.

Blair, in sounding his warning, said that the country’s loyalty should be to “God and godly traditions over loyalty to foreign rulers”, immorality or any other action that would displease God.

“We are a sovereign nation. No one from outside of Jamaica must tell us what to do. I want that to be placed in our hearts and mind most emphatically,” said Blair to shouts of ‘amen’ from the congregation of his Portmore New Testament Church of God in Bayside in St Catherine, which included Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and the members of her Cabinet.

“In executing your duties please do not feel threatened by anyone from foreign or ina the yard, no outside government or any local group. No matter what they wave in front of you, you please God first and at all times. Let no man look at you and say do this or else. I prefer the ‘or else’ because with God all things are possible,” Blair said.

Blair, who chairs the PNP’s Integrity Commission, did not single out a “local group” or foreign Government or their motive to interfere with or try to influence the Simpson Miller led administration, but the topic of the country’s buggery law has always been a hot-button issue.

There have also been suggestions that foreign aid to Jamaica may be cut should the country refuse to repeal the controversial buggery law.

Simpson Miller came under heavy criticism from the church and other groups two weeks ago when, she said in response to a question during the leadership debate leading up to the general election of December 29, said that her administration would pursue a review of Jamaica’s buggery laws. Her comment also sparked suggestions that her party’s election campaign was being funded by homosexual groups overseas. The suggestion however was denied by party officials.

Last week a group of homosexuals said that they were giving the new administration 100 days to initiate the review of the buggery laws.

But yesterday Blair said that service to nation comes with responsibilities and accountability, and noted that it was God who “build up and take down Government.

“Every move that you make, every decision that you make, remember that God’s great eyes are upon you. Loyalty to rulers does not mean participating in immoral Government practices,” Blair remarked.

In bringing greetings, Simpson Miller asked for God’s guidance in her dealings on behalf of the nation.
