Clare’s clear exuberance
Dear Editor,
Your columnist and my old friend Clare Forrester always seems to be asking questions, rather than giving answers and finding solutions. But in her piece on Wednesday, January 4 regarding TVJ’s election night coverage, I’m quite surprised that she failed to observe that all of us on the panel (like most of the country) were completely bowled over by the extent of the PNP’s victory margin.
So, given their history, tone and attitude, would any significant number of media practitioners be exuding “unbridled exuberance” at the probability of a JLP victory? Clearly not.
Nevertheless, it is with some amount of amusement that I would like to assure Clare that I experienced no more “emotional discomfort” on Thursday night than she experienced on the night of September 3, 2007. Nor did any of the jubilant comrades on Thursday display any more unbridled exuberance than Clare did on February 29, 1972 when she won that bet we had on the election result in South West St Elizabeth and the political fortunes of ‘Poco’.
But no need to worry, Clare. Nearly 40 years later if we had to do it all over again and you challenged me to another wager on South West and Chris, would I have taken the bet?
Clearly.
The only problem is that we would no longer have the Hummingbird Restaurant to celebrate your great triumph.
