Congrats, Mrs Simpson Miller
Dear Editor,
Kindly grant me an opportunity in your very fine and excellent newspaper to congratulate the PNP, in particular its leader Mrs Portia Simpson Miller.
Whether she was personally responsible or not for her campaign slogan, “People Power”, it has shown that those who just perceive her as a big brawl, emanating out of the so-called ghetto of Jamaica, and deficient in cognitive prowess and intellectual vigour, might have, and have been, simply operating from the standpoint, the standpipe even, of class prejudice and a sexist orientation.
I also want to congratulate her and Mr Andrew Holness for the graciousness in which each respectively accepted victory and defeat. This should serve as an exemplary move by those at the helm of the nation. The time for ‘cass cass’, disunity and selfishness should fly through the window like a bird.
This is particularly important at a time when Jamaica faces one of its steepest economic challenges.
In North America and certain parts of Europe, it would appear that one of the main challenges, apart from the recession, may be that of racism.
The Portia Simpson Miller-led PNP was propelled back to power because the people have started to recognise that of all those who are offering themselves to lead the country, it is Mrs Simpson Miller who more closely represents their interests and their backgrounds.
Those in the PNP who still think they should run things because they are the ones blessed with the right background, intellectual prowess, and because they are men, should take serious introspection of their backward, bourgeoise way of thinking.
The people have spoken. People Power has triumphed! Take note.
