Holness proved he’s the best candidate for PM
Dear Editor,
I must admit that Mrs Simpson Miller fared much better in the debate than I had expected, so kudos to you, ma’am. Minus her trademark fumbling over the language, she managed to keep herself in check, and was the model of decorum and poise.
It was a relief that the debate did not deteriorate into a ‘tracing’ match. It certainly helped that she had her notes, without which she apparently could not function, as evidenced by her constant shuffling of papers.
As an individual taken to cringing every time she stands in front of a podium, I was indeed pleased to observe a much calmer and sedate Simpson Miller. It is also apparent that she made an effort to keep herself in check in light of the criticisms levelled at her conduct over the years, and again since the start of the ‘silly season’.
That aside, I am of the opinion that the opposition leader brought little to the debate, as she spent too much time on the defensive, and reciting her résumé. It would have been better if she had explicitly shown how her vast experience has and would contribute to restoring the Jamaican economy.
I must admit that Mr Holness was a little more subtle on the issues than I had expected. However, he has effectively proven to Jamaica that he is in fact the best choice for the post of prime minister. He was diplomatic, yet decisive in relation to controversial issues. This is a characteristic of a true statesman.
