Why the fuss over the other Damion Crawford?
Dear Editor,
I am not sure what the big deal is about the “other Damion Crawford”. I must admit that his entry onto the scene is very mysterious and probably even baffling. However, I am not sure if his presence will make much of a difference to electors on December 29, as most persons will be voting for either of the two major political parties anyway.
The fact that the PNP has been making such a stink about it seems to be just an attempt at masking something else — maybe the fact that they are running scared. From all indications, the incumbent administration has been reasserting their presence over the past few weeks, and declaring their intention to remain in power. Aside from the ‘victory’ at the recent debates, however, the Opposition seems to be losing its footing in the race for the leadership.
The young PM continues to dominate the favourability polls among Jamaicans. This could be because he seems honest about issues when they come up, instead of sweeping them under the rug with blame and innuendoes. His actions demonstrate his willingness to tackle corruption, and he and his team have presented feasible plans and long-term vision for the country.
Added to this he appears to be wholly dedicated to family, and has a passion for educating the country’s children. He obviously understands the issues and is comfortable with the details of the policies of his administration. He also presents a fresh approach to governance, even in his willingness to dismantle garrisons and stamp out corruption at all levels.
This is in stark contrast to the fact that the Portia Simpson Miller-led Opposition seems overwhelmed with the task and would stop at nothing to perpetuate negative and “old-time politics”.
