Motto unreal, colours inflame
Dear Editor,
Our National Motto, “Out Of Many One People”, is ideal but not real. Our virtual two-party system is inconsistent with the motto, because it divides the people between PNP and JLP. This division, which promotes competition and choice, is absolutely defensible and almost universally practised.
However, that party colours either inflame or tend to inflame the people and promote anti-social conduct cannot be denied and so should be abolished by all political parties. In the sphere of law, a submission or evidence which tends to inflame a judge or jury is not allowed, because bad decisions are likely to result. I am not only talking about bad decisions here, I am talking about violence, wanton destruction of property and even death, the suffering of alienation or discrimination as has often been the case in our society, because party colours readily identify one as either a member or supporter of a party.
I submit that as I am not a politician, I cannot see any advantage in party colours, but am confident that the disadvantages far outweigh any advantage.
