JUTC concerned about bus attacks
THE Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is expressing concern about attacks on the company’s buses during the election period.
The company, in a release this morning, said it received reports of at least two incidents last night, while supporters of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) were being taken home from a party meeting in downtown Kingston.
“The incidents took place near Delacree Park in South West St Andrew, and Dela Vega City in Spanish Town, St Catherine,” a release from the JUTC said.
In the first case near Delacree Park, gunshots were fired on a bus and bottles were also thrown, resulting in one passenger sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. The injured man had to undergo emergency surgery at the Kingston Public Hospital. The bus was also damaged in the attack.
In the second incident, gunshots and other missiles were directed at another bus, resulting in damage to the unit and minimal physical injury to one passenger, the JUTC said.
The JUTC said as a result, it was urging civility among supporters of the major political parties.
