Now that’s a financial model
Gisele Bundchen was revealed to be the world’s richest supermodel earlier this year. And thanks to some careful analysis, it has become very clear why she can command such high fees. A blog, which has tracked the stock of every publicly trading company she has represented since 2007 to create the ‘Gisele Bundchen Index’, discovered that the 31-year-old has dramatically outperformed the Dow Jones. Stockerblog’s researchers found that within that time frame, the Gisele Index had soared by 41 per cent, while the Dow had dropped four per cent. It is a consistent trend too, its author reveals.
“Since January 2008, Gisele was up 39 per cent versus a drop of four per cent for the Dow,” the blog read. “And since January 2009, Gisele rose 67 per cent.” The impact of the Brazilian-born mother of one, who is married to NFL star Tom Brady, is thanks to her work for companies including Polo Ralph Lauren and Disney. One of her most significant endorsements was for Pantene, which is owned by Procter & Gamble. Her ads for the haircare line sparked a rise of 40 per cent in sales in Brazil. She has also lent her star power to Volkswagen and South American cell phone provider Vivo Participacoes, while News Corp division 20th Century Fox benefited when she appeared in Taxi and The Devil Wears Prada. Gisele, who is believed to be on track to becoming the world’s first model billionaire, made $45million last year alone, according to Forbes. It estimates that she has made $250million over the past 10 years, but the launch of her own skincare and lingerie lines now look set to push her earnings into the stratosphere. Gisele is not the only supermodel to outperform the Dow.

‘I started counting calories at 14’
Former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger says she started counting calories and jogging when she was just 14. But the X Factor USA judge says she is no longer a slave to the scales and swears she now eats whatever she wants. “It’s taken a long time to get here,” the 33-year-old tells Shape. “I started jogging and counting calories when I was just 14. I’ve been on every diet you can imagine. By the time I was in the Pussycat Dolls, I was on the scale all the time. Now that I’m in my 30s, I’ve stepped off the scale — I just go by how my clothes fit.” Despite having abs that you can bounce a coin off, Scherzinger claims she eats huge amounts. “I’ll often have soft-boiled eggs, smoked salmon and wholewheat toast for breakfast; cold cuts, veggies and fruit for lunch; and usually chicken or fish with rice and more vegetables for dinner.” In addition to being a judge on the US version of X Factor, Scherzinger is currently promoting her first solo album, Killer Love. “I come from the same place these contestants do,” she said when discussing the show. “I empathise with them because I know what it’s like to be up there proving yourself.”

2012’s top predicted baby names
As ever, it’s been a year of outlandish baby names in the race for originality and meaning in the celebrity world. Taking a lead from the great and the good, Nameberry.com predicts a glut of ‘adjective’ and ‘fierce’ names in the year ahead. Nouns, such as Brooklyn and Apple have given way to adjectives, including Sunny, True and Loving, says the site’s Pamela Satran. “The adjective is an expansion of the word name thing. People are pushing it in lots of different directions,” she told MailOnline. Macy Gray’s daughter is named Happy, Mark Ruffalo’s son is Keen and Rick Derringer’s daughter’s middle name is Loving, notes Nameberry’s celebrity expert, Linda Rosenkrantz. Actors Joely Fisher, Forest Whitaker and Meg Ryan all named their babies True, while Adam Sandler’s daughter is named Sunny. The choice for Clueless star Alicia Silverstone’s baby, born in May, is named Bear Blu, singer Erikah Badu’s baby girl is Puma, My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way’s baby is Bandit, and director Robert Rodriguez’s choices for his offspring are uncompromisingly macho: Rebel, Rogue, Rocket and Racer. It doesn’t end there — Korn musician Jonathan Davis fathers a Pirate, guitarist Steve Vai a Fire, and The Killers’ Brandon Flowers a Gunner. And actor Oliver Hudson went with the choice of Wilder for his baby boy.
