Spot Valley make winning start in KFC basketball
GREEN POND, St James — Spot Valley High made a winning start to both sections of the ISSA/KFC Western Conference boys high schools basketball competition by winning both games against newcomers Green Pond High at Green Pond on Thursday.
Spot Valley joined St James High who gained a walk-over win from another Frome Technical yesterday, Cornwall College and Herbert Morrison Technical as winners of their first game in the Under-16 section as well as Cornwall College and Holland High in the Under-19 section.
In the Under-16 game Thursday, Spot Valley were a big 53-point (68-15) winner over Green Pond as Jhamonique Brown scored a double-double 20 points and 10 rebounds, Dalton Carey scored 14 points and had eight rebounds, while Teavardo Daley scored nine points
The margin was closer in the Under-19 game as Spot Valley won by just 12 points (53-41) with Murray Moodie scoring 16 points and had 12 rebounds as well as four blocked shots, while Everton Steadman scored 18 points and nine rebounds.
Christopher Simpson led Green Pond with nine points and Romario Daley scored eight points.
The competition continues on Monday with Muschett High hosting William Knibb in both categories in a Trelawny derby, while on Tuesday Knockalva Technical will host Herbert Morrison Technical in an Under-16 game, while Rhodes Hall and Knockalva will meet in an Under-19 game, both at Rhodes Hall.
