PNP pushes Paul Burke
PAUL Burke, a Peoples National Party (PNP) organiser and former chairman of the party’s powerful Region Three, has been chosen to challenge former general secretary and current campaign director of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), Karl Samuda in upcoming elections.
The outspoken Burke, who was an active member of the Team Portia campaign in the last presidential race in 2006, was last night named as the PNP’s candidate for North Central St Andrew at a rally held in Papine.
Burke has fallen in and out of favour in the party over the years, even resigning from his Region Three post some years ago, claiming he was disgusted by the leadership race then, which he described as a contest “centred on personal and leadership ambitions” . He said at the time the leadership challenge was distracting the PNP from advancing the fundamental work of the party’s Political Education Commission and Structures Review Committee — two outfits in which he has been playing an influential role.
