Coffee factory worker seeks redundancy cheque after serving time
Dear Claudienne
In November of 2010 I was employed to a coffee factory in rural St Andrew. It so happened that I got into an altercation with someone and was arrested and sent to prison for six months.
I served the prison term and tried to return to the job but was not re-employed. In the meantime, all of the workers were made redundant and received redundancy payments.
Am I entitled to a redundancy payment seeing that I worked there for seven years? The altercation did not happen at the workplace.

Dear LO
The coffee factory spokesman said that you did not notify them that you had a matter in court and had been sentenced. Under the Labour Act it was therefore assumed that you had abandoned the job.
The managing director and CEO of the coffee factory said that he would be willing to meet with you to discuss the matter and examine your claim. However, he said that a meeting with you would not commit the company to a settlement or create a precedent that could compromise them. He said that he saw and spoke with you two days ago and you did not raise the matter.
Please contact the CEO immediately.
Good luck.
Dear Claudienne
On July 1, 2011, my son who is licensed and permitted to drive my Nissan motor car was driving it easterly along the Spanish Town Road towards Three Miles, when it was hit by a haulage truck.
A report was made by my son at the Hunt’s Bay police station the same day and I also made a report to my insurance company.
In mid-August I was informed by my insurance company that the truck owner or driver had not reported the accident.
I was asked to pay for a police report which my son did and submitted the request to the Hunt’s Bay police in early September.
Since that time I have made several requests to the police for the report to enable me to make an insurance claim but without succss.
Could you kindly check with the police for me as I am getting the runaround.

Dear BS
The Hunt’s Bay police have advised Tell Claudienne that they called your cell number on Wednesday (November 16) morning and left a voicemail message that told you to go and collect the report. You said that you did not receive the message. We note that you promised to go for the report on Thursday.
Good luck.
