Blake is JAAA’s interim head
DR Warren Blake was on Monday night elected as interim president of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) at an extra-ordinary meeting held at their offices in the wake of the sudden passing of former president Howard Aris last week.
Blake, who beat first vice-president Grace Jackson 12-3 in a vote-off, will steer the business of the local body until the scheduled November 29 Annual General Meeting when it is expected that the selection will be ratified.
The elections for a new executive is not due until next year and if ratified, Blake would serve for four years, until 2016.
Aris, who died of what is suspected to be a heart attack last Thursday, had indicated he would not be contesting the elections following seven years at the helm of the JAAA after taking over from Pat Anderson.
Meanwhile, when contacted yesterday, Blake said out of respect for the late president he was not willing to give any interviews “as this week should be about Mr Aris, not about me”.
Jackson is still the first vice-president, while Olympic legend Donald Quarrie replaces Blake as second vice-president. Vilma Charlton is the third vice-president and Dr Winston Dawes the fourth vice-president.
Garth Gayle is the general secretary and Marie Tavares the assistant general secretary.
Ludlow Watts is the Honorary Treasurer and Charlie Fuller the director of records.
The Council Members are-Maxine Brown, Edward Hector, Bertland Cameron, Alfred Francis, Gregory Hamilton, Judith Ewart, Dennis Gordon, Trevor TC Campbell, Merlene Hamilton, Kathy Rattray-Samuels, Neville Myton and Juliet Cuthbert.
