Paul Bogle bow into D’Cup quarters today
YORK, St Thomas — Paul Bogle High will make their first appearance in the quarter-final round of the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition today when they take on Petersfield High at York Oval in a rescheduled Group Two game.
The game should have been played on Saturday when the round got underway, but had to be pushed back as Petersfield first had to play Buff Bay High in a playoff at Drax Hall to decide which team would have been the second best second-placed team after they had tied on statistics following the Inter-zone round.
Petersfield won that game 5-4 on penalties to make their second trip to the top eight, and first since 1994.
Today both teams will seek to join defending champions Rusea’s High at the top of Group Two after the champions edged Grange Hill 1-0 in their game at Frome on Saturday.
Home field and having rested since last Wednesday when they wrapped up Group Six in the Inter-zone round would suggest Paul Bogle High may have the advantage, but Petersfield will be sharpened by back-to-back tough games, drawing 2-2 with the highly rated St Elizabeth Technical in St Elizabeth and then holding their nerves against Buff Bay to win at Drax Hall.
