Invalid resurrection of Herald
Dear Editor,
It is futile for Jamaicans to be getting irate and vociferous about the Herald newspaper’s resurrection to broadside the JLP in the coming general election. That paper should by now be known as just another arm of the People’s National Party’s election machinery, like Mr Lambert Brown’s radio programme where the listeners are merely old PNP supporters.
The paper cannot attract the fresh young minds, the working class, well-thinking or independent minds of the Jamaican populace. In fact, not even progressive-thinking supporters of the PNP buy that paper, so its resurrection is invalid.
One needs to bear in mind that the PNP was very confident of a victory heading to the polls with their credible ticket in former PM Bruce Golding, but now that he has called their bluff by stepping aside, they are now in a tailspin to find whatever they can to secure a victory in the next general election, especially now that they have dipped in the polls due to resounding calls for younger and fresher minds in leadership.
While speculations about age may or may not be a factor in this coming election, I am confident that most voters will be heading to the polls based on relevance and performance. Even some of whom we refer to as diehard party supporters are starting to sing a different tune, and since the departure of Mr Golding the Dudus conspiracy vehicle is now null and void; hence the search is on for the next possible “JEEP” to hitch a ride.
