Necessary Luxury – Dennis Hickey
My laptop is an important part of my life because it contains a good portion of my life’s work of almost 15 years — dating back to when computers first started to become really popular in Jamaica.
My Digicel BlackBerry phone is really vital to me. I can’t go a day without it because it is used for instant communication to my office, business associates, family and friends.
I love to take pictures of things I find interesting, magnificent sights or just things in general — so my camera is a must-have.
Growing up I always believed in being neatly groomed so I always travel with my hairbrush. I keep it in my car because I am always brushing my hair.
My specially fitted running shoes are a necessity as keeping fit is an almost daily routine. I do a lot of running and skipping on weekday mornings while on Saturdays I do my regular 10-mile run with the Pacers running group. Running helps me to reduce stress, keep fit and sharpen my mental state for the day. My shoes help to protect the ankles and by extension the rest of the body.
I hardly drink sweetened juices, so water is my preferred drink. I consume about four to five bottles per day because of its health benefits. My home-made vegetable juice — made from a blend of string beans, celery, lettuce, cucumber, lime and coconut water — is also extremely healthy and a part of my daily intake.
My nails must be groomed so I have over the years made it a priority to travel with my manicure kit — especially for those times when it is not possible to visit my manicurist.
