JADCO takes cross-island workshops to MoBay today
THE Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) will be hosting a one-day anti-doping workshop for athletes and athlete support personnel at the Wexford Court hotel, in Montego Bay today. This will be the third in a series of ‘Cross Island’ quarterly workshops which will be delivered across the island. The Montego Bay workshop will cover the parishes of St James, Westmoreland and Hanover.
Like the first two workshops which were held in Kingston and Mandeville, respectively, in March and June, the workshops will be focusing on critical aspects of the Anti-Doping Process covering areas such as; The Doping Control Process, The WADA Anti-Doping Code, Changes to the Prohibited List of Substances and Methods, Testing, Biological Passport, Managing Medication and other elements that are important to the understanding and appreciation of Anti-Doping.
The Cross Island Workshops will see both local and international lecturers including Kerwin Clarke, manager of Results Management/Legal Affairs, at the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA); Dr David Tavares, director/chief pharmacist, Hilton’s Pharmacy, Montego Bay and member of the Caribbean Association of Pharmacists; and JADCO’s doping control and results manager Cara Ann Bennett-Sudeene.
“Our ultimate objective is to engender and sustain an anti-doping culture,” said Garfield Ellis, director of education and communication at JADCO.
“We are keen to have participants representing all the sporting interests. The critical thing for us is that everyone has access to the information and training.
“Secondly we want to ensure that participants are empowered to train and pass on information to the teams and clubs and those sporting bodies they represent,” he added.
The workshop will run all day beginning with registration at 9:00 am and ending at 4:00 pm and is free to all invited participants.
