Likely changes to Wednesday’s D’Cup schedule
MONTEGO BAY, St James — At least one change will be made to Wednesday’s schedule in the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup Inter-zone schedule.
George Forbes, the Competitions Officer for ISSA, told the Observer yesterday that the times for the double header at Jarrett Park would be switched.
The game between defending champions Rusea’s High and Marcus Garvey Technical will now be played at 3:00 pm after out-of-contention teams St James High and St Mary High play out their fixtures, starting at 1:00 pm.
Forbes said there could be other changes, but if so they would be announced later today.
Thirteen of the 24 Inter-zone schools were officially eliminated from quarter-final considerations after Saturday’s round of matches, including former champions St James High, Clarendon College and Munro College.
Only the six group winners plus the next two best second-placed teams will advance to the quarter-finals that start on Saturday.
Four schools, Rusea’s High, Frome Technical, Cedric Titus High and Glenmuir High have won their two games played so far and are in control of their own destinies.
Frome Technical and Cedric Titus are tied on six points each in Group One and a draw between both schools on Wednesday will guarantee both advancing.
Rusea’s are also on six points in Group Two with a healthy plus seven goal differential, while Glenmuir are also on six points and have a plus seven goal differential in Group Five.
Meanwhile, beaten Ben Francis KO finalists Manchester High lead Group Three with four points, STETHS and Petersfield are tied on four points in Group Four, while Paul Bogle and Buff Bay are also tied on four points at the top of Group six.
Additionally, the race for the daCosta Cup Golden Boot award for the top scorer from the Inter-zone round onwards is being led by Glenmuir’s Noel Johnson, who has scored six times so far, one more than last year’s winner Bryan Brown of Rusea’s, while Frome Technical’s Kevin Williams is on three.
