Bartley, Munn take Alliance Buccaneers Golf
LINDY Bartley and Jodi Munn-Barrow followed up on their day one lead to take the Alliance Buccaneers Memorial Golf Tournament yesterday at Caymanas Golf Club in St Catherine.
Bartley had a combined score of 146, having shot 69 on Saturday and five over par 77 yesterday. He started disastrously with a bogey on the first hole, hole #6 and #8 on the front nine. The start of the back nine saw a slight recovery with a birdie (one under par), at #13. He had bogey on holes #14 and #16 and two over par or double bogey on the final hole. Speaking with Bartley immediately after the tournament, he said: “I did not do as well as I did yesterday (Saturday), but I am happy with the win.”
Munn-Barrow also started badly. She had a double bogey on the first hole ending the front nine with four over par. She ended the back nine on even par 36, but a close look at the score card showed that she had a birdie on hole #15 and a bogey on #16.
Maggie Lyn finished second in the Ladies category with a combined score of 162, having scored 73 on Saturday and 79 yesterday. Michelle Gabay scored 82 on both days for a combined score of 164 in third place.
The Men’s Senior category went to Robert Chin, who was in second place at the end of day one. He shot 75 yesterday which when added to Saturday’s score of 77 gave him a total score of 152.
Rory Jardine, who led on day one with 72, shot 81 yesterday for a total score of 153. Wayne Chai Chong, president of the Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) ended two strokes off the leader with a total score of 154. He shot 77 on both days.
Dennis Atkinson took the Men’s Super Senior section after shooting 83 yesterday, following up on his 75 on Saturday. Overall he shot 158 for the category. Fed Sutherland came in second with three strokes off the leader. He shot 80 and 81 for 161 overall. Tony Gooden and Ian Garbott tied for third place having both shot 79 and 85 on days one and two, respectively. They shot a total score of 184.
There were 24 juniors in the tournament. Romaine Evans and Dwight Moulton in the Under-15 category recorded the best score of 84 of all the age-group categories. Justin Borrowes in the Under-13 scored 85 for the second best overall score. Donovan Henry led the Under-19 category with a score of 85 yesterday. Oshane Haye (Under-17), who led the juniors on day one shot 86 yesterday. The best score in the category was shot by Zondra Royes. He shot 83.
Another 10 golfers came in yesterday in addition to Saturday’s 130 for a total participation of 140.
The tournament featured two different competitions running concurrently. One was a two-day, 36-hole Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) qualifier, while the other played yesterday only was a modified Stableford competition in the form of a charity fundraiser for the Laws Street Trade Training Centre.
