Morgan blunder costs Boys’ Town
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The illegal use of Marvin Morgan in two of their three National Premier League games has caused Boys’ Town one of the two points they had earned as well as valuable goal difference.
Additionally newly-promoted Montego Bay United FC (MBUFC) have been awarded three points from their first-round game against Boys’ Town at the Montego Bay Sports Complex that had ended 1-1.
Reno will also benefit as they get two more goals after beating Boys’ Town 1-0 in the opening week.
Boys’ Town drop one spot in the points table from 10th to 11th, just aheasd of Village United who are yet to score a point. MBUFC, meantime, moved up four places form 11th to seventh place, while Reno remained in eighth place but with a better goal difference.
The decisions were made during a meeting of the Professional Football Association of Jamaica’s (PFAJ’s) Operations Committee meeting on Thursday.
According to a release yesterday, Boys’ Town had failed to obtain an International Transfer Certificate after they had released Morgan to play in the United States last season.
Boys’ Town had previously consented to Morgan getting clearance to play in the United States from the Jamaica Football Federation, but had “failed to obtain a similar clearance from the United States Soccer Federation for the player to return to Jamaica to play for his club” and as such was in breach of the rules.
Morgan, the release also stated, will “not be eligible for participation in the NPL until the second transfer window opens in January 2012”.
