Davis peeved by Arnett’s early season slump
ARNETT Gardens coach Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis said he’s disappointed with his club’s sudden dip in form following a second successive National Premier League (NPL) defeat on Sunday.
The ‘Junglists’ started the season in inspired form — winning the KSAFA Champions League in pre-season, before coming away with three points at Village United in their opening NPL fixture.
But, a narrow defeat at home to arch-rivals Tivoli Gardens on Matchday Two and this latest 1-3 loss to Sporting Central Academy at Brancourt have now left them sitting at the wrong end of the table.
“It’s very hard to take two losses in-a-row, but we can’t kill the guys because the season is long,” said Davis. “We just have to go home now, see where we went wrong and try to bounce back in the next game.”
The defeat was, somewhat, a bitter pill for Arnett to swallow as they did look the better team in the first half after new signing Errol Stevens cancelled out Gregory Lewis’ second-minute opener.
They were stronger in midfield, gave Sporting no space to find their rhythm and kept a good shape whether in defence or attack.
“That’s exactly what we weren’t doing in the second half,” admitted Davis. “We lost that shape, got excited and stopped marking.
“We were just there watching Sporting Central move the ball around, and these are young guys, so if you let them play they will damage you,” the former national striker added.
Poor tracking by Arnett’s defence did lead to their downfall midway the second half, with Francois Swaby and Levaughn Williams given too much space to rifle in two decent goals for Sporting.
