Boys’ Town spank Reno 4-0 in U-21 kickoff
BOYS’ Town made an impressive start to the JFF/PLCA Under-21 competition with a 4-0 win over Reno at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.
Jevanie Mitchell netted twice in the 51st and 78th minutes, while captain Mikhail Howell scored the opener in the fourth minute before Kevin Crossman doubled the advantage in the 18th minute.
With the Brazilian national coaches in attendance, the home team started brightly and were quick on the scoresheet and never looked back.
It was sweet revenge for Boys’ Town whose senior team dominated Reno but lost 0-1 in their opening National Premier League (NPL) match.
But the quality of play wasn’t anything to write home about and surely, for the scouting coaches, not much to note.
If the under-21s are supposed to be the feeder league for the senior club teams and eventually the national setup, then yesterday’s display did not paint a bright picture for the future.
Still there were bright sparks from Boys’ Town midfielders Howell, Orane White, the skilful Jamie Robinson and right-back Kemar Campbell.
Reno got a great chance to pull a goal back, but substitute Danie Williams failed to convert a penalty when he blasted his effort onto the crossbar.
Meanwhile, Omar Gordon registered a hat-trick as Arnett Gardens whipped Village United 4-1 at the Elliston Wakeland Centre. Devaron Dixon gave Arnett a 24th minute lead before Gordon took control with goals in the 30th, 50th and 69th minute.
Aldane Grant responded for Village in the 34th minute as Arnett Gardens completed the first round Under-21 and senior double over their Trelawny opponents.
Ricardo Morris netted in the 18th minute as Portmore United clipped defending champions Sporting Central Academy 1-0 at Ferdie Neita Park.
At Drewsland, Waterhouse dismissed Highgate 4-0. At press time, Tivoli Gardens were leading Montego Bay United 1-0 with 25 minutes remaining and Humble Lion were also leading Harbour View 1-0.
