Island-inspired Water
Feeling a bit parched? How about sips of June plum-flavoured water to quench your thirst? New on supermarket shelves is a range of Rock-inspired flavoured bottled water from local manufacturer Island ’62 that includes lemon grass, cucumber and otaheite apple flavours. Available in 500 ml bottles, the Island’62 product line was launched in late July with a view, according to marketing manager Darrell Burgess, “to unearth, develop, market and sell Jamaica and Jamaican products”. Burgess told Thursday Food that the particular flavours were selected based on taste and the availability of raw material supplies: “We are particularly pleased that our project put to use fruits such as otaheite apples and guavas (which the company will soon launch), much of which was being lost to decay.” The Island ’62 bottled water retails for $60 and is available at several Hi-Lo Food Stores, the Progressive chain of supermarkets, and other locations islandwide.
