Stylin with…Tanya
Reggae artiste Tanya Stephens is very much her own person when it comes on to her music or her own dressing style. She makes no bones about the fact that she marches to just one beat — that of her own! The These Streets singer is now focused on getting her new album ready for the Christmas holidays, but that won’t stop her from getting the best deal as The Jamaica Observer Celebrates Fashion’s Night Out on Thursday, September 8.
Listening to her sharp, often biting social commentary and other rude girl songs you wouldn’t guess that this diva of the dancehall is basically an “easy going jeans and tanktop” kind of girl.
Stephens says when it comes on to fashion, she has no favourite designers “I have no fashion, I am pure prose! Creativity over fads,” she said.
Although she says she has no favourite scents when it comes on to perfume she admits to being a little partial the Lolita Lempicka line.
It seems Tanya Stephens radical nature doesn’t stop at the sometime tough lyrics she pens, but when it comes on to shopping she is also very clearcut on what she is drawn to.
” My favourite place to shop is anywhere they’re not trying to sell me last three seasons clothes for next year’s prices.”
Her views on ‘fashion slumming’ is even more radical as she sums it up “To me fashion ‘slumming’ is allowing yourself to be dictated to and wind up being uncomfortable to please others’ tastes!”
