Inside Ingrid’s Closet
“Fashion is about infusing your wardrobe with the pieces that you love, and they have to be flexible enough to wear more than once. When I go shopping, it is not about price, it is about what I love… what stands out to me.” No idle boast, we can attest, as Ingrid Emmons, LIME’s regional vice-president — human resources, has given us more than enough reason to sit up and take style notes.
Her quirky-sexy-cool fashion sense gets cameras clicking at every turn, so much so that we just had to pin her down for a peek at her favourite pieces and a few essential styling tips. And as the Jamaica OBSERVER CELEBRATES FASHION’S NIGHT OUT (FNO) on September 8, we’re sure you’ll relish her advice… HER STYLE ICON…BRANDS SHE ADORES…BEST PLACES TO SHOP…HER WARDROBE BASICS:HER TRIED AND TRUE FASHION TIPS:
“My style icon is Victoria Beckham… she’s very funky, and I like the fact that she is also a designer because that decision was born out of her own love for clothes.”
“I love our Jamaican designers; I just think they’re supertalented and some of them don’t even know it yet. I don’t think we have even scratched the surface yet where fashion design is concerned. Alia Orane comes readily to mind, and internationally, I love All Saints clothing.”
“I’m definitely a boutique girl, as I like to have one-of-a-kind things, and for me, the thrill is in the discovery. I must say I really enjoy the offerings at Stanley & Empress boutique and All Saints, or pretty much any great boutique when I’m overseas.”
1 “Accessories – I invest heavily in those because they make or break an outfit, and can make it look completely different.”
2 “Amazing jeans – Every woman needs jeans that fit well. I recommend Joe’s Jeans for curvy women, and Hudson or Victoria Beckham’s jeans – those were made for the black woman’s body.”
3 “Shoes that pop – Shoes are the ultimate finisher.”
• “Don’t be afraid to mix it up and come up with something refreshingly unexpected.”
• “Spread the love — when you find a designer you like, especially locally, tell people about them. You can’t support their business all on your own.”
• “I like to combine high street with high end… I think that makes for a great look.”
• “If you leave the store and that item you didn’t buy is still on your mind, go back for it. It’s obviously a worthwhile investment.”
• “You can wear the same thing more than once, but it never has to look the same. Mix up your clothes so they look different every time you wear them.”
