Rock The Cloth: FNO – How to Shop
We are all excited that the Jamaica OBSERVER CELEBRATES FASHION’S NIGHT OUT (FNO) on September 8 across Jamaica. As fortunate shoppers learned since the very first FNO two years ago, it is a great time to get deals because retailers significantly reduce prices. Many are planning to go shopping again this year and even better… it’s now islandwide, so we thought we’d make some recommendations for shopping.
Now, just because there will be great deals does not mean we should not spend wisely, so the first and most important tip is this: Make a shopping list!
There are a few ways to know what to include on the list. One approach is to fill your wardrobe gaps. There may be some staples missing from your wardrobe, or maybe you need to update some items. Items that may end up on your list could be a new cocktail dress, jeans, white shirt, casual pieces, etc. Try to have a fair idea of the look or style you want for each item that is missing. For example, if you want formal shoes, do you want black, coloured, or metallic?
Another approach to making your list is to shop for upcoming events. FNO is in September, but it is just a few short months to December and all those social and corporate gatherings. Maybe you have a special celebration like an anniversary or someone’s birthday, and so instead of shopping only for yourself you could also get gifts at this time as well.
The final tip is: Take a sneak peek. Visit your favourite stores as well as new ones you have wanted to see. Look at the merchandise to get an idea of whether there is something there you would love to get. And don’t be afraid to ask what their discounts will be. This helps you plan your FNO stops, which is important on such a very busy night, and might just mean you won’t miss out.
We share looks related to what you may consider getting this FNO. It is likely there will be discounts on casuals as the summer ends, and as retailers want to clear stock to make way for the holiday items, so we feature a cute oversized T-shirt dress, as well as a cool top perfect for daytime or even as a cover-up. We also feature one semi-formal and a potential formal look that might be great for your December calendar.
Happy Shopping!!
