Matalon gets third term as PSOJ president
JOSEPH M Matalon, chairman of the ICD Group, was unanimously elected to a third term in office as President of The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) at the Organisation’s Council meeting held on June 23 at the Hope Road offices of The PSOJ.
According to the PSOJ, Matalon received a strong vote of confidence from his private sector colleagues who expressed their appreciation for his effective leadership of the Organisation and the significant impact the PSOJ has had on matters of national interest.
Matalon acknowledged with gratitude the overwhelming support that he had received from PSOJ Council members as well as from the wider membership of the Organisation. He said he expected his third term at the helm of the PSOJ to be hectic, challenging and demanding and was confident that the Organisation’s leadership team was equal to the task. He also urged the membership to continue its advocacy efforts, projects and programmes.
Also re-elected at the Council meeting were vice presidents Nicholas Scott, Group project manager, Facey Commodity Co Ltd; Don Wehby, Group chief operating officer, GraceKennedy Ltd; and Lisa Soares Lewis, human resource director, North LAC, Diageo. Jacqueline Sharp chief financial officer, Scotiabank Jamaica was elected as the honorary treasurer. The Council also re-appointed Mr Earl Jarrett, GM, Jamaica National Building Society as honorary secretary. Sandra Glasgow, CEO, the PSOJ, completes the Organisation’s Officer Corps.
The Council also elected the following Associations as members of the Executive Committee, represented by the following Presidents:
Bruce Bowen, President, Jamaica Bankers’ Association (JBA); Vitus Evans, President, Jamaica Exporters Association (JEA); Wayne Chen, President, Jamaica Employers’ Federation (JEF); Evelyn Smith, President, Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association (JHTA); Archibald Campbell, President, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ); Roger Hinds, President, Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ); and Dalma James, President, Small Businesses Association of Jamaica (SBAJ).
The PSOJ’s Council consists of a maximum of 50 members — 25 associations, 20 companies and five individuals — each serving for two years. The election of Council members takes place at the Organisation’s Annual General Meeting.
