Barbican pull clear in Sherwin Williams Women’s League
Defending champions Barbican scored a convincing 3-0 win over Los Perfectos in a repeat of last season’s final as the Sherwin Williams Women’s League continued with its fifth round of matches at Barbican on Saturday.
Former national Under-20 player Kessian Walker opened the scoring for the Charles Edwards-coached team and Phillisia Lewis made it 2-0 minutes after the interval.
Shanique Smith then sealed the win for the home team with a third goal 15 minutes from time.
The result leave Barbican on 13 points, four clear of their nearest challengers Waterhouse, who played to a 0-0 draw with Santos at Bell/Chung Oval.
In other games, Portmore Strikers defeated Harbour View 2-0, while Olympic Gardens and the National Under-17 team scored identical 1-0 wins over St Thomas and UWI, respectively.
At Racing field, host Portmore Strikers went ahead on a strike from Rochelle Bryan towards the end of the first-half and national striker Venicia Reid added an insurance goal for the Portmore club early in the second half to seal the win.
At Cling Cling Oval, Roxine Salmon’s lone strike was enough to see host Olympic Gardens to a 1-0 win over St Thomas.
Shanise McDonald got the game’s only goal for the national Under-17 team in their 1-0 win against UWI.
Three teams, the National Under-17s, Santos and Olympic Gardens trail second-placed Waterhouse (nine points) by a point.
And they are followed closely by Los Perfectos and Portmore Strikers with seven points each. Harbour View are next with six, then Trelawny Women with three, while UWI and St Thomas remain pointless at the foot of the table.
