With mere weeks left to the Jamaica Observer Food Awards slated for Thursday, May 26 on the East Lawns of Devon House, our judges were warned not to have a heavy lunch. It’s just as well, for it was with much difficulty some four hours later that we left the Spanish Court hotel.

Tastings commenced with Grace Foods & Services brand managers Colette Morrison and Rachael Browne-Abrahams who introduced our panel of judges, including special guest judges US actor Rockmond Dunbar and marketing executive Tara Playfair-Scott, to two flavours of Grace instant cup soup: Mannish water (ram goat-flavoured) and Pepperpot. Red pea soup is also on the market. The soups are not only quick and easy to prepare – just add boiling water – but boasts all the goodness and flavour of authentic Jamaican soups. The judges gave them the thumbs up for a quick pick-me-up and enjoyed the authenticity of both.

There was also Grace ready in 10 minutes instant cup rice, which the judges concurred would find favour with the local consumers who are already large consumers of rice. The Instant Rice Cheese flavour would also resonate with students.
