Chasers Café is back!
Chasers Café is back! The former Barbican Road-based eatery that was once a must-do spot for garlic-crab-loving foodies and those with a penchant for fab local cuisine and drinks is now occupying its new space at 5 Belmont Road. Proprietor George McLeish invited Thursday Food, his friends and previous faithful customers to a soft opening of his resurgent Chasers last week.
Acquiring the property in October last year, McLeish says, has seen him in extensive revamp mode. With a new address and starting afresh come sweeping changes to the existing physical structure McLeish has taken over. While a nicely appointed area is already in place for the bar and dining areas, there’s much work that is still underway and he gives us a tour to detail the progress. An indoor dining room is being refurbished, as is a private dining room. There is, too, a Johnnie Walker Room in the works that McLeish reveals will be an undertaking by Diageo, as well as a room exclusively for domino-playing.
We are told that in its new incarnation Chasers will retain much of its original menu — Jamaican faves like oxtail and beans, curried goat and stewed peas, but Chinese dishes and seafood will be added to its menu offerings. The eatery’s once beloved Sunday brunch will also be resurrected, McLeish informs. He is timetabling the end of April for all to be ready for an official opening. The countdown begins.
