Denham Town Police Station stoned
THE police were on high alert in downtown Kingston yesterday following the stoning of the Denham Town Police Station by a small group of protesters who accused members of the constabulary of ‘abusing’ Leighton ‘Livity’ Coke, the brother of former Tivoli Gardens strongman Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.
No serious damage was reported but police at the station warned that they would continue to be on alert at all times and would act against anyone who attempted to harm members of the constabulary.
The protesting residents claimed that for the past two weeks family members have been barred from visiting Coke, who has been in custody since last year. “We hear that he is not being fed and that he needs medical attention,” said a woman who claimed that she is family member of Coke.
Another woman said she was using the opportunity to call on the human rights groups “to look into the matter”.
Livity Coke is facing charges of shooting with intent, illegal possession of a firearm and wearing a Jamaica Defence Force uniform.
He is accused of firing at the security forces during their incursion into Tivoli Gardens to serve an arrest warrant on his brother Dudus in May last year.
