NEPA’s anti-plastic bag campaign
While MegaMart collaborated with the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) ahead of launching the ecoBag last month, NEPA intends to ramp up its work in publicly promoting reduced use of plastic bags.
Natalie Fearon, NEPA’s manager of public education and corporate communication, said that the agency will be engaging supermarket chains and large retail companies in dialogue about providing alternatives to plastic bags such as biodegradable and degradable bags.
The anti-plastic bag campaign, she disclosed, should begin sometime this year and its primary objective is “to encourage anyone who uses plastic bags to try as best as possible to use them less.” She explained that plastic bags not properly disposed of often end up in the ocean where they kill marine life such as sea turtles, coral and fish.
