MegaMart’s ecoBag
MegaMart Wholesale Club launched the ecoBag last month at its three stores in Kingston, Portmore and Montego Bay in its bid to be more eco-friendly and curtail the usage of plastic bags by customers. Administration and promotions manager at MegaMart DelRose Malcolm told Thursday Food that the company had made a corporate decision to be environmentally responsible. “We know how destructive plastic bags are on the environment and we saw a need for us to be responsible, and so we introduced these beautiful bags,” Malcolm informed.
With some 100,000 ecoBags to commence the initial roll-out, Malcolm said the response has to date been positive. The ecoBag may also be used as a marketing tool for companies to advertise their brands on the reverse side of the bags, and already some 12 companies have taken up the opportunity to do so, including Nestlé, Heineken, CPJ, National Baking, Breeze, Digicel and CB Chicken.
