Finsac enquiry adjourns over private hearing controversy
COMMISSIONERS of the Financial Sector Adjustment Company (Finsac) enquiry this morning postponed today’s sitting after controversy erupted regarding the hearing of testimony of a witness in private.
Yesterday Commissioner Worrick Bogle declared that the sitting would be held in camera at the request of scheduled witness Richard Downer.
He said that Downer’s testimony could violate the sub judicae rule barring comments on matters before the court.
But this morning the commissioners shifted their position and were prepared to allow a public hearing.
However, Stephen Shelton, the attorney representing Downer, objected to the change and the sitting was postponed.
