Shelf Talk: Neckhangers add visual appeal
With over two years on radio, a Facebook page with a fan-count in excess of 1,700 Lascelles exec Debra Taylor and talk show host François St Juste have sought to make the wines they discuss weekly on the FAME FM morning segment ‘A Moment with Wine’ more accessible to consumers.
They have tagged various bottles with ‘neckhangers’ in order to make it easier for shoppers to identify the wines featured on the programme.
“We constantly get feedback from listeners from all walks of life and wanted a way to make the brands discussed easier to indentify, so the neckhanger was born,” Taylor shares with Thursday Food.
The neckhanger is featured on bottles such as Hardys, Rex Goliath, Barefoot and Chamdor.
The concept was first introduced to local shelves in 2009; about 10,000 were printed and featured the presenters’ images as well as a wine and food pairing chart on the underside.
“The feedback was so positive that we did the current one for (last) Christmas,” Taylor adds, noting that Lascelles had tripled the number of neckhangers this past season.
“They are on bottles in all Mega Mart stores and other leading outlets islandwide,” the Lascelles Wines & Spirits exec shares.
As aforementioned, the duo has also invested in new media, relying on Facebook to provide interaction between themselves and their listeners.
