Orange Hill claim Westmoreland T20 crown
Beaten SDC 20/20 cricket competition finalist Orange Hill defeated Stars of the West on Sunday at the Little London High School to win the inaugural Westmoreland Credit Union 20/20 Cricket Competition.
Orange Hill won the toss and invited Stars of the West to bat, who made 157 for nine in their 20 overs. Stars of the West started positively with Chan Wakefield top scoring with 46 runs, while national Under-19 captain Paul Palmer Jnr came in at the fall of the first wicket, made a good looking 15, but was cut down with the score on 31.
They lose wickets regularly after looking like they were on target to make at least 180 runs.
Orange Hill came to the wicket with openers Shanda Francis (58) and Jason Thompson (34) top-scoring at the top of the innings. At the fall of the first wicket at 52 for one after five overs, Orange Hill began to lose wickets regularly as well, but they eventually won the match on the penultimate delivery after entering the final over needing seven runs to win.
It was a most exciting over as Orange Hill lost a wicket on the second delivery still needing five runs to win. Nero Banton then hit a four to tie the innings. He then took two runs off Myron Wilson to take the match.
Champions Orange Hill took home $35,000, while the runner-up bagged $15,000.
