Why ask for Robertson’s resignation?
Dear Editor,
The People’s National Party has shown itself to be woefully bereft of a justifiable basis on which to be seriously considered as an alterative to the Jamaica Labour Party.
This is displayed by their recent call for James Robertson affair in calling for Mr Robertson to be relieved of his current government responsibilities. On what basis? A mere accusation for which the police have not given any indication they feel is reasonably credible?
I believe that the government is treating this situation appropriately, for it is still the policy of the country that a man is considered innocent until proven guilty. Mind you, reasonable suspicion may be a basis on which to ask someone to step aside until the matter is resolved. If the mining and energy minister is found guilty, then he’s out. If he’s found not guilty, then the party would hardly have a basis on which to relieve him of his responsibility – not from a position of principle at least. I do not know that this would even generate any political liability for the party.
The call by the PNP for Robertson’s removal from office is like an inferior tennis player hoping to score from the unforced errors of his opponent. Tired and cheap. The PNP should look in the mirror.
