Official opening for Clarendon KO on Saturday
MINERAL HEIGHTS, Clarendon — The Mineral Heights football field will today play host to the official opening of the Claro/Clarendon Knockout football competition, which is scheduled to get underway at 1:00 pm with a double-header.
Original Hazard and York Town will contest the first game, while Cross United and Sporting Atletic — a junior team to Digicel Premier League outfit Sporting Central Academyâ will meet in the feature game at 3:00 pm.
On paper, Hazard, who were relegated from the South Central Confederation Super League last season, should start as favourites in the first game, but the tough-tackling York Town team are known to spring a few surprises.
The second game should be an interesting one, as both Cross and Sporting Atletic are virtually unknown teams, but if the smooth ball movement of Sporting Central is anything to go by, then their juniors might well provide some entertainment.
In first-leg first-round games played on Thursday, a 56th minute strike from Cleveland Grant gifted Rock River FC a 1-0 win over Milk River United at the Turners Oval, while Rayon Smith netted an equaliser in the 62nd minute to earn Free Town a 1-1 draw with Wood Hall at Bodles.
Carlton Aiken had given demoted Super League team Wood Hall a 39th-minute lead.
