TEENage Turns 10
Well, technically, it’s actually our Sweet 16!
But 10 years ago, today, the TEENage Observer magazine made its appearance in the Tuesday Observer and laid the foundation for the Number One TEEN magazine in Jamaica.
The magazine, the only newspaper magazine catering specifically for TEENs, back then, was only eight pages and we weren’t ‘big enough’ to stand alone.
The first few issues carried some similar features to now that have somewhat become TEENage tradition including interviews with up-and-coming personalities and groups, fabulous fashion shoots and the birth of our infamous ‘Best of/Worst of’ feature at the end of each year.
Other features that we were known for were our Photo Story and e Said, She Said’.
As usual, we were first to cop an exclusive interview with international rapper Eve, who was a budding star at the time and was on her first visit to Jamaica.
Of course, after setting the stage, for local TEEN papers, TEENage has continued to live up to our high standards and kept you in tune with fashion, entertainment, news, sports, tech, exclusive interviews and just about everything.
Look out for our mini-interviews with writers and featured personalities, who were a part of TEENage’s ‘first’ issues.
