Captain’s Bakery Western Confed Super League off with a bang
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Hat-tricks from Catherine Hall’s Eshane Wilkins and Seba United’s Jermie Bucknor highlighted Sunday’s opening triple-header in the Jamaica Football Federation’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League at Jarrett Park.
Wilkins guided Catherine Hall to a come from behind 3-1 win over newcomers Cousin’s Cove of Hanover, while Bucknor led Seba United to a 3-0 win over Trelawny’s Harmony who were returning after a one-year break.
In the other game, Frome FC edged Tomorrow’s People 2-1.
The league continues this afternoon with two more games — Westmoreland newcomers Russia will host Mt Pelier at Bay Road, while Exidos and Granville will meet at Friendship. Both games are set to start at 3:00 pm.
The first round will be completed on Thursday when Bamboo FC host Wadadah.
On Sunday, Wilkins came on at the start of the second half with his team trailing 1-0, made his presence felt almost immediately when he levelled the scores in the 47th minute, scoring from close range.
He gave the Garfield Anderson-coached team the lead in the 52nd minute when he headed home then completed the hat-trick in the 76th minute.
Phillip Gardner had given the newcomers a dream by start scoring in the first minute, but they were unable to maintain the lead as Corey Marsh also missed a late penalty that would have cut the deficit to one goal.
They also ended the game with 10 players after Marvin Parkinson was sent off for serious foul play.
Bucknor also scored his treble in the second half, netting in the 56th, 63rd and 85th minutes after Harmony had held Seba to a scoreless first half.
Tomorrow’s People, last season’s St James Football Association’s Senior League champions, got their Super League campaign off to a slow start as they went down to Frome.
Kenneth Smith gave Frome the lead after 33 minutes when Tomorrow’s People’s goalkeeper Adrian Tummings was lured off his line by a cross from the right and left the goal unprotected for an easy tap in.
Jermaine Francis headed home an equaliser five minutes later, but midfielder Damion Green scored the winner in the 59th minute.
