Edwin Allen, Oracabessa clash in schoolgirl netball
ANGELS, St Catherine — Edwin Allen High will go top of Group Three in the ISSA/Digicel Rural Area Senior League netball competition should they earn at least a point against Oracabessa High in a second-round match at GC Foster College today.
The Clarendon girls are currently tied with three other teams in the group on two points, but have a game in hand, and a win against their St Mary opponents will see them going two points clear of the pack.
In another game, Thompson Town play St Mary High, while in the Junior League, Edwin Allen tackle St Mary High at GC Foster.
Action gets underway at 10:30 am.
Meanwhile, in other second-round matches played last Thursday, defending Senior League champions Holmwood Technical led five other teams that picked up their second straight win.
Holmwood, who are also the All-Island champions, ran out easy 47-12 winners over Titchfield at the Queen’s School and are joined atop Group Four by Dinthill Technical, who edged Muschett High, 22-21.
Titchfield are ahead of the idled Thompson Town and St Mary High in third position on two points.
Group One leaders Denbigh High and Frome Technical also made two wins from two with comfortable victories over Black River and Albert Town, respectively.
Denbigh beat Black River 42-14, while Frome defeated Albert Town 33-8, with deCarteret College outscoring Irwin High, 16-11, in the group’s other match.
Manning’s School and Glenmuir continued to set the pace in Group Two as they recorded 22-21 and 19-13 victories over Manchester High and St Elizabeth Technical, respectively, while Brown’s Town High rebounded with a 21-12 beating of Knockalva.
At Moneague College in St Ann, Herbert Morrison were clipped 21-20 by Tacius Golding to leave the top-four teams in Group Three level on two points each, after Happy Grove downed Porus, 23-18.
In the Junior League, champions Holmwood maintained their perfect record in Group Four, following a hard-fought 19-14 win against Titchfield at Queen’s.
Other winners were Denbigh, Frome Technical, Glenmuir, Ocho Rios, Anchovy, Belfield, Herbert Morrison and Islington High.
