Claro/Clarendon KO kicks off today
FOUR PATHS, Clarendon — Cherry Tree FC and Coffalls FC will kick-off the new-look Claro/Clarendon Football Association Knockout competition when they meet in a preliminary round fixture at the Four Paths Community Centre today, starting at 3:00 pm.
On Thursday, the Clarendon FA and Claro signed off on a five-year deal valued at $27million at the offices of the Jamaica Football Federation in New Kingston on Thursday, which will see the telecommunications company sponsoring all football competitions run by the FA.
Some $91,000 will be set aside as incentive for the Knockout competition, which will feature 21 teams — two each from the Digicel Premier League and the South Central Confederation Super League. The others are drawn from the Major League and the Division One.
The winner of the competition, set to be concluded on December 23, will walk away with $50,000, second-placed $30,000, while $11,000 will go towards sectional prizes.
Today’s opener will be the first of a two-legged fixture being used as a qualifier for the first-round, also to be played on a home-and-away basis.
Defending champions Sporting Central Academy, along with their Premier League counterparts Humble Lion, Super League contenders Monymusk FC and New Bowens, will grace the competition at the quarter-final stage.
