Aleen Bailey gives generously RISE Life
World and Olympic sprint relay gold medallist, Jamaican Aleen Bailey, made a personal donation of $100,000 to RISE Life Management Services to continue their social intervention programmes.
Bailey, who won the coveted 2010 Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence valued at $500,000 said: “My first decision was to help RISE Life Management Services after winning the award.”
In the future, she plans to set up training and possibly a residential facility for young Jamaicans to help them fulfill their dreams when she retires from track and field.
Beginning October, RISE Life celebrates 20 years of service as a non-governmental organisation providing intervention work to six inner-city communities.
Executive director, Sonita Morin-Abrahams, underscored the importance of community service as a means of transforming lives and shaping social outcomes.
“Aleen Bailey’s generosity marks a significant contribution to RISE Life’s commitment to this vision,” she added.
In September, the star athlete was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the University of South Carolina. Bailey is currently training in Florida with coach Lance Brauman and intends to represent Jamaica at the World Championships in 2011.
