Holmwood on hunt in Rural Area second round
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Impressive Holmwood Technical will today tackle Titchfield High at the Queen’s School as the second round of the ISSA/Digicel Rural Area schoolgirl netball competition continues.
On Tuesday, the defending Senior and Junior League champions scored big wins over Muschett and Montego Bay High to sit atop their respective groups.
In Senior League action, the Manchester girls hammered Muschett 55-5 at STETHS to take charge of Group Four and will fancy their chances against the Portland-based Titchfield, who defeated St Mary High, 29-19.
The other game in the group will pit Dinthill Tech, who were 26-16 winners over Thompson Town, against Muschett at Moneague College.
In Group One, Denbigh High slammed Albert Town 47-10 and will now take aim at Black River — who tied their first game, 15-15, with deCarteret College — when they meet at Manchester High.
Frome Technical will also go for their second victory against Albert Town at Montego Bay Cricket Club, after whipping Irwin High 30-6, while deCarteret will look to get off the mark against Irwin at STETHS.
Group Two leaders Manning’s School scored the widest margin of victory, thrashing Knockalva 50-4, but may have to work harder against Manchester — who beat STETHS 25-23 — when they meet at STETHS.
Second-placed Glenmuir play STETHS at Manchester, while Knockalva and Brown’s Town meet in a bottom-of-the-table clash at MoBay Cricket Club.
In Group Three, Herbert Morrison beat Porus 29-10 and should face their first real test against Tacius Golding at Moneague, while losers Happy Grove and Porus square-off at The Queen’s.
In the Junior League, champions Holmwood, behind a huge 52-2 win over Montego Bay High, look to make Titchfield their next victim in their meeting at Queen’s. Titchfield got by Islington 24-13 in their opener.
Last year’s beaten finalists and Group One leaders Denbigh High, following a commanding 31-6 win over St Hilda’s, play STETHS at Manchester; Bishop Gibson, who topped STETHS, 17-14, meet Anchovy at STETHS, with Frome taking on St Hilda’s in Montego Bay.
In Group Two, Manning’s lock horns with Manchester at STETHS after their 37-8 beating of Rusea’s; Glenmuir play Black River at Manchester, while Rusea’s and Ocho Rios battle in Montego Bay.
The day’s other games will be between Belfield and Yallahs at GC Foster and Guys Hill versus Herbert Morrison at Moneague.
