Windies Masters power to second straight victory
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Mahendra Nagamootoo and Curtly Ambrose shared five wickets to set them up, and a typically robust innings from Rawl Lewis formalised a seven-wicket victory for West Indies Masters over India Masters in the CLOBI Cup World Masters Tournament on Saturday.
Nagamootoo collected three wickets for 19 runs from his four overs to earn the Man-of-the-Match award, and Ambrose took two for 19 from his allotted overs, as the Indians were dismissed for 96 in 19.2 overs in the second match of a double-header at Kensington Oval.
Robin Singh, the former Trinidad & Tobago all-rounder, top-scored with 28 from 31 balls for India.
Lewis, playing in his first match and used as an opener, struck four fours and one six in his 44 from 41 balls, as the Windies Masters reached their target with 31 balls to spare.
Earlier, Romesh Kaluwitharana struck six fours and one six in 59 from 39 balls, and Aravinda de Silva made 39 from 35 balls to lay the foundation for a 28-run victory for Sri Lanka Masters.
The pair added 101 from 76 balls for the second wicket to anchor Sri Lanka to 164 for four from their allocation of 20 overs.
Sanath Jayasuirya and Russell Arnold then snared two wickets apiece, as England were restricted to 136 for seven from their 20 overs.
Dominic Cork led the way with 31, Mark Alleyne made 25, Neil Fairbrother gathered 22, and Craig White 20 to be the leading lights for England.
The competition was due to continue yesterday when England face India, and West Indies meet Sri Lanka in the top-of-the-table clash.
The tournament ends tomorrow.
