Tivoli slam Waterhouse
A clinical Tivoli Gardens captured the Digicel Premier League (DPL) first end-of-round final by destroying Waterhouse FC 5-1 at the National Stadium last night.
A stunning strike from national player Keammar Daley in the eighth minute set the tone for Tivoli’s emphatic victory.
Further goals from Jameel Thompson, Devon Hodges, Roland Dean and substitute Kwame Richardson rounded out the scoring which allowed Tivoli Gardens to walk away with the $250,000 winning prize.
The league’s leading marksman Vincent Earle scored a consolation goal from the penalty spot in the 71st minute for his sixth of the season.
Waterhouse for their losing effort collected $150,000, but had they been more clinical in front of goal the scoreline would have been more respectable.
But it was clear that all was not well in the Waterhouse camp as their coach Baris Johnson was not on the bench.
After dominating, five minutes in Waterhouse’s Jermaine Anderson tested goalkeeper Edsel Scott with a long-range shot that dipped just in front of him.
But despite their early dominance, Waterhouse fell behind to a brilliant strike from Daley, a goal deserving to win any final.
Daley collected a ball just outside the box, dipped his left shoulder and moved past a defender to his right before unleashing a thunderous, unstoppable shot from 20 metres that flew into the net before national goalkeeper Richard McCallum had a chance to react.
Waterhouse responded with Thenstead teasing the Tivoli Gardens backline before the west Kingston outfit doubled their advantage with Jameel Thompson heading home a Steve Green cross in the 28th minute following McCallum’s poor judgement.
Hodges then capitalised on poor defending and made it 3-0 in the 62nd minute and five minutes later Dean outpaced the backline and made it 4-0.
Earle converted a 71st-minute penalty which gave Waterhouse hope of a fightback, but Tivoli substitute Kwame Richardson rammed home a fifth in the 89th minute to seal the deal.
