Cavalier, Aug Town win in Claro Super League
DEFENDING champions Cavalier kept their two-point in lead in the Claro/KSAFA Super League after a 2-1 win over Duhaney Park at Collie Smith Complex yesterday.
Former Arnett Gardens and Tivoli midfielder Horace Sharpe fired Cavaliers ahead on 33 minutes before Nicholos Forbes made it 2-0 in the 56th.
Leonard Gooden netted Duhaney Park’s consolation four minutes from time.
The result lifted Cavalier to 16 points, two ahead of August Town who defeated Bull Bay 1-0. Third-placed UWI (11) slipped off the pace after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Rae Town.
In other results, Santos stopped Constant Spring 5-1,; Rockfort edged Barbican 1-0, and Real Mona outscored Mountain View, 3-2
At Collie Smith Complex, Cavalier went ahead just past the half-hour mark when Sharpe redirected a corner kick past the goalkeeper, amidst protests of handball from the Duhaney Park players.
Cavalier added a second against the run of play 11 minutes after the break when the Duhaney Park defence hesitated in clearing the ball and Forbes slotted home from 12 yards.
Duhaney Park continued to have the better of the second half but wasted a number of good chances before Gooden volleyed home a pass from Adrian Weir in the 86th.
Duhaney Park, who are yet to win this season, dropped into the relegation zone after Real Mona scored a 3-2 win over Mountain View to move from the foot of the table and one place above the drop zone.
Shedon Minott netted a brace in the 39th and 51st minutes and Marvin Jones (85th) one for Real Mona, who trailed 1-2 at half-time through goals from Fabian Cooke and Troyland Williams.
Second-placed August Town beat Bull Bay on Dwayne Plummer’s 87th-minute strike, while Rockfort jumped to fourth on 10 points after a similar result over Barbican through an 87th-minute winner from Rayon Brown.
At Rae Town, Renell Coley opened the scoring and then netted a 90th-minute equaliser against UWI. Anthony Grant had earlier scored in the 42nd and 72nd to put UWI 2-1 up.
Meanwhile, Oneil Gayle and Fabian Nethersole scored two goals each and Alexi Dobson one as Santos stunned Constant Spring 5-1 to join Rockfort on 10 points. Oneil McDonald scored for the losers.
