Razor B: Cutting his way to the top
RAZOR B, formerly known as Roger Castle, is a humble, multi-faceted individual poised for a bright musical career. After attending St Jago High School, he migrated to Canada and started working on his musical career as an international artiste.
With his hot new track tearing up the airwaves, Hot Girls To The Ring, Razor B recently returned to his homeland to shoot the video and TEENage caught up with him to find out what’s really going on in the musical career of this humble individual.
TEENage: Why did you decide to return to Jamaica to shoot the video?
Razor B: I love the vibes of the Jamaican people, the culture and what they can bring to the video. Plus, there is no place like home. So, I contacted my friend and international choreographer Jaeblaze, and we came to have auditions and shoot the video.
TEENage: When you’re not doing music, what do you enjoy doing?
Razor B: I love to entertain, help others and cook. I own a Jamaican restaurant in Canada, called OG (Only God) Restaurant where for the past five years, I have been serving food such as ackee, saltfish and dumplin. Just because I’m not in Jamaica, it doesn’t mean Jamaica is not in me. I also have a charity known as Show Us The Way Foundation, and through this I help the less fortunate.
TEENage: What are some of the plans you have for the foundation?
Razor B: I am coming back to Jamaica in Christmas and through the Foundation I will help the less fortunate persons in the Waterford community where I will cook and give out free Christmas dinner. It will be something like a fun day.
TEENage: Have you always wanted to own a restaurant and do music?
Razor B: Yes, many years ago I made a list of all the things I wanted to do in the future and I’ve just accomplished a few of them. That’s why I named my restaurant OG, which stands for Only God, as he is the only one who could have given me that.
TEENage: How would you describe your music?
Razor B: I am currently heading towards a new direction in my musical career as I intend to create a new sound for reggae, which I refer to as fusion reggae. This is a form of singjay, soft rock and a mixture between the likes of Vybz Kartel and Mavado. I admire the musical sounds of Sean Kingston and Sean Paul as well.
TEENage: What are some of the projects you are currently working on?
Razor B: I am currently working on my upcoming album entitled Split Personality and I recently released my new single Hot Girls To The Ring.
TEENage: What kind of crowd is the new single targeting?
Razor B: This song is targeting both young and older persons as it aims to enhance our culture and remind us of what our form of ‘fun’ use to be, ring games such as 1, 2, 3 redlight in contrast to the current takeover of the Internet.
TEENage: Who are some of the persons you have worked with?
Razor B: I have collaborated with Empress Minott on the track Show Us The Way, which was on the Richie B charts.
TEENage: What is the reception like since the release of your new single Hot Girls To The Ring?
Razor B: I have many new singles out and I have been receiving many positive reactions as DJs are bumping it and persons in the club are loving it.
TEENage: What do you hope to accomplish within the next five years?
Razor B: I hope to go as far as music will take me on the international level. In the future I want to use some of my profits from my work to assist the less fortunate. I also really admire the work that Shaggy is doing in his efforts and assistance to the needy.
