Reggae Boy Daley smashes brace for Bradford
LONDON, England (CMC) — Jamaican winger Omar Daley scored two second-half goals in the space of 10 minutes as Bradford City crushed Oxford United 5-0 in English League Two action Saturday.
Following a goalless first half at home at the Coral Windows Stadium, the 29-year-old netted in the 48th minute and then nine minutes later, to propel the hosts to their third win in four outings.
Daley put Bradford ahead just three minutes after the break when he beat goalkeeper Ryan Clarke with a right-footed volley after James Hanson had headed a pass his way.
Minutes later, Daley was on the scoresheet again when his excellent left-footer again gave Clarke little chance.
Former England international Lee Hendrie increased the lead from the spot in the 66th minute after a foul on Hanson but the game took a turn for the worst five minutes later when three players were sent off.
Defender Mark Creighton earned a second yellow for bringing down Daley and Hanson and Oxford defender Jake Wright were then red carded for an ensuing bust up.
Substitute David Syers handed Bradford their fourth three minutes from time before another substitute Louis Moult added the fifth in stoppage with a long range volley.
In the Championship, Trinidad and Tobago international Jason Scotland struck his fifth goal of the season as Roy Keane’s Ipswich scored their first league win in four outings with a 2-0 dismissal of Millwall.
The 31-year-old Scotland, who joined Ipswich during the summer, opened the scoring in the fifth minute when he clinically finished off a classy one-two between Tamas Priskin and T&T teammate Carlos Edwards down the right side.
Edwards was involved in the second goal as his throw-in resulted in a foul on Priskin inside the area, allowing Grant Leadbitter to convert from the spot in the 56th minute.
