Village United add to Georges’ woes
PORT ANTONIO, Portland — The poor form of Digicel Premier League (DPL) outfit St Georges SC continued on Wednesday when Village United pipped them 1-0 at Lynch Park.
The lone goal was scored by Village’s Graeme Green in the 38th minute.
Both teams started on the attack, with hosts St Georges being piloted by Dever Orgill, Leon Irving, Damion Harwood and Shawn Hunter.
Village, meanwhile, countered through Graeme Green, Fitzroy Campbell, Shavar Campbell and Troy Smith.
St Georges were denied an early goal when Orgill was taken down outside the box and the subsequent free-kick by Jermaine Taylor had goalie Elvis Hart going full-stretch to push for a corner.
Shortly afterwards, Village took the lead when Rohan Bernard broke up an opposing attack and sent a long pass upfield, beating several defenders. A crafty Graeme Green lashed onto the ball and fired past goalkeeper Ralston Robinson.
Both teams were denied goals shortly thereafter, with Girvon Brown’s shot which rocketed into the net being ruled offside as he sought to pull one back for St George’s.
Orgill then fired wide with Hart at his mercy, while at the other end, Oliver Trail suffered a similar fate.
